The discipline
Sumou's mixed-use quarters are designed as small cities in themselves. Places where the rituals of a day can unfold without ever leaving the address. Retail, workplace, residence, civic and cultural functions are not adjacent uses. They are composed together.
The result is denser than a tower, gentler than a district. A vertical neighbourhood that gives the city a new centre and the people inside it a new way to live in the Kingdom.
The approach
Every quarter begins with the public realm. A street, a colonnade, a square. That the project gives the city before the city is asked to give it anything back.
Retail, workplace, residence and hospitality are designed in concert, not after the fact. The detailing of a lobby anticipates the rhythm of a café.
We design for the day shift, the night shift, the weekend, and the prayer hour. The address has to read at every time the city visits it.
